چکیده

We examine a choice setting in which residential electricity consumers may respond to incentives other than contemporaneous prices. We test predictions from the standard model of utility maximization using data from a natural field experiment that exposed some households to a change in their electricity rates. Households reduce electricity usage in response to a decrease in electricity prices, suggesting that factors aside from price influence customer choice. An understanding of household behavior in energy markets is essential for the effective implementation of climate change mitigation policy. Documenting this and similar results is a necessary step in achieving such an understanding. ∗We would like to thank Michael Anderson, Marcus Asplund, Anette Boom, Jim Bushnell, Lucas Davis, Kelsey Jack, Kevin Lang, Alan Meier, Michael Manove, Marc Rysman, Johannes Schmieder, and the many other participants in seminars at Boston University Economics, the UC Energy Institute, UC Berkeley ARE, UC San Diego Economics, Copenhagen Business School Economics, the University of New South Wales Economics, and the JEBO conference at University of Tennessee for their comments. Market Based Analysis of Natural Gas and Electricity Export via System Dynamics

By increasing the extraction of natural gas, its role in the restructured power systems is being expanded, due to its lower pollution. Iran has the second largest reserves of natural gas in the world and exports it to different countries. This paper represents long run analysis of natural gas export from Iran to Turkey as a case study, considering direct transfer and exporting via the power mar...

The Effect of Raising Electricity Price on Welfare of the Household Sector in Rural Areas of Guilan Province, Iran

Present study investigates the effect of soaring residential electricity price on the welfare of rural individuals in Guilan Province by Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) in which the elasticity’s and welfare variations were calculated by Compensation Variations (CV) and Equivalent Variations (EV) for the time period of 1991-2012. It was shown that the absolute value of income and price elastic...

Estimation of Electricity Demand in Residential Sector Using Genetic Algorithm Approach

This paper aimed at estimation of the per capita consumption of electricity in residential sector based on economic indicators in Iran. The Genetic Algorithm Electricity Demand Model (GAEDM) was developed based on the past data using the genetic algorithm approach (GAA). The economic indicators used during the model development include: gross domestic product (GDP) in terms of per capita and ...

The Long(er)-Run Elasticity of Electricity Demand: Evidence from Municipal Electric Aggregation∗

Understanding how consumers respond to electricity prices is essential for predicting the effects of climate change policy and other policies that target electricity markets. To date, studies of long-run electricity demand have relied on price changes that are transient or endogenous, and none have utilized experimental or quasi-experimental variation. We study the dynamics of residential elect...

The Inflationary Effects of Increasing Electricity Price - in Different Consumption Tariffs - on Economic Activities and Household Cost: Input-Output Method

Reducing or eliminating subsidies for the electricity sector in the economy is a good way to control the daily consumption of electricity and balance the cost of supply and demand players. By increasing or decreasing electricity subsidies, indirect taxes are reduced or increased. Under these conditions, assuming the stability of primary inputs and the stability of power generation technology an...
